Cultivating Wellness Through Nature
As part of Lankenau Medical Center’s Master Plan Expansion, our landscape architecture firm designed the Wellness Garden, a unique space connecting nutrition, wellness, and education. This half-acre, year-round organic garden serves as a living testament to the power of nature in promoting healing, learning, and community engagement.
Hands-On Learning Opportunities
The Wellness Garden is designed to serve as an immersive outdoor classroom for the 10,000 children visiting Lankenau Medical Center annually. With raised beds, a greenhouse, and dedicated education areas, the garden provides ample opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. Children can engage in planting, harvesting, and composting activities, fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and the importance of sustainable food production.
Restorative Spaces for All
The thoughtfully designed space includes a pavilion with picnic tables, which invite individuals to pause, reflect, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of being surrounded by nature. The garden also provides opportunities for patients and staff to engage in gentle gardening activities, promoting physical and mental well-being.
Sustainable and Productive Landscape
Our team’s design for the Wellness Garden prioritizes sustainability and year-round productivity. The half-acre organic garden features raised beds, allowing efficient irrigation and easy access for all users. A greenhouse extends the growing season, ensuring a consistent supply of fresh, nutrient-dense produce. Composting on-site helps reduce waste and support the garden’s organic practices, showcasing the importance of closed-loop systems in sustainable gardening.
Through innovative design, careful site planning, and a focus on user engagement, our team created a multifunctional outdoor space that educates, nourishes and inspires the Lankenau Medical Center community. The Wellness Garden is a shining example of how thoughtfully designed landscapes can contribute to the health and well-being of individuals and communities alike.
