Nurturing Healing Through Thoughtful Landscape Design
As part of the Lankenau Medical Center Master Plan development, our landscape architecture team designed restorative healing spaces and reimagined the existing courtyards. By integrating nature into the medical setting, we aimed to provide patients, visitors, and staff with environments that promote relaxation, rejuvenation, and overall well-being.
Restorative Green Roof Areas
Our team designed three new green roof areas that offer stunning views for patients, visitors, and staff. These elevated green spaces provide a visual connection to nature, promoting a sense of calm and tranquility.
Welcoming Public Transit Arrival Area
To enhance the experience of those arriving via public transit, we designed the arrival area with a new canopy, comfortable seating, lighting, and specialty paving. The paving design guides visitors through a beautifully renovated courtyard, leading them to the heart of the medical center. This thoughtful approach ensures a seamless and inviting transition from the outside world into the healing environment.
Accessible Courtyard Oasis
Adjacent to a coffee bar, our firm designed access to a previously inaccessible courtyard, opening it up to visitors and staff. Equipped with benches, tables, chairs, and seasonal plantings, this outdoor haven provides a perfect spot for rest, relaxation, and refreshment. The courtyard’s design encourages social interaction and offers a respite from the clinical setting.
Soothing Walled Gathering Area
Adjoining the Heart Pavilion, we created a walled gathering area that welcomes visitors with a calming fountain and umbrella tables with chairs. This serene space invites people to rest, enjoy a meal, or take a moment to breathe in fresh air. The enclosure provides a sense of privacy and safety, fostering a peaceful atmosphere conducive to healing.
Throughout the project, our team carefully considered the views from patient rooms, public spaces, and offices above, ensuring that the outdoor environment remains integrated into the medical center experience. By seamlessly blending nature with the built environment, we have created healing spaces that nurture the mind, body, and spirit of all who visit Lankenau Medical Center.
