RGS Receives Opportunity for All Award from 10,000 Friends of PA

RGS is pleased to announce that it has recently received an Opportunity for All Award from the 10,000 Friends of PA Commonwealth Awards Program for George Street Commons. The awards program recognizes leading and innovative development projects that utilize smart growth practices creating great walkable, sustainable, equitable, healthy communities.

George Street Commons is a transit-oriented, mixed-use development located on the corner of South George Street and College Avenue. The project is located within the City of York’s Central Business and Historic Districts and involved the redevelopment of an underutilized and partially vacant city block to provide working families with high-quality, affordable living options.

Available to families with incomes between 20 and 60 percent of the area’s median income are 28 two- and three-bedroom town homes. The design is sympathetic to the existing surrounding context replacing a parking lot, an abandoned building and a run-down grocery store.

Included in the development is a community center to foster personal growth and professional development of the residents. The YMCA offers supportive services to facilitate resident transition to homeownership. Services such as on-site case management, budget counseling and financial management, parenting programs, housekeeping and home maintenance, distant learning and continuing education opportunities are available for tenants.
