Frederick Living Breaks Ground on The Meadows

On June 30th, Frederick Living, a continuing care retirement community, and the project team of Wagman Construction and Barton Partners gathered to celebrate a ceremonial groundbreaking as they prepare to embark upon an exciting expansion project.

The Meadows, designed as an independent living ‘pocket neighborhood’, will feature 55 cottages developed around two central greens. These cottages will feature geo-thermal heating and cooling along with spacious, open floor plans.

RGS Associates, a landscape architecture and civil engineering firm, worked with the local municipality to craft a text amendment to the township’s zoning ordinance for development of this innovative ‘pocket neighborhood’ concept. By strategically placing cottages around the central greens, Frederick Living can offer a unique living experience that provides a sense of place for their residents. Aiding in the health and wellbeing of the community, this concept has been shown to facilitate and encourage social interaction among neighbors. In addition to the social benefits, the ‘pocket neighborhood’ concept also has many environmental benefits. The design reduces suburban sprawl by purposefully locating homes closer together while preserving surrounding open space. Sustainable site features such as rain gardens, bio-swales, and a regenerative stormwater step pool were incorporated into the site design to improve water quality and provide groundwater recharge. Other site amenities include paved walking trails that connect this new cottage community to the main campus.
