Landis Homes, a continuing care retirement community nestled within the pastoral landscapes and preserved farmlands of Lancaster County, sought to develop the remaining southernmost 39-acres of their 114-acre property plus redevelop the northern portion of their campus.
We were honored to partner with Landis Homes to create a master plan for the approximately 40 acre South Campus Expansion. This expansion incorporated a number of sustainable features earning Landis Homes LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification from the United States Green Building Counsel.
We designed the South Campus to include 75 apartments and 59 cottages and Landis Homes earned LEED Gold accreditation for sustainable development through floodplain restoration and other sustainable design features in the Hybrid Homes. The floodplain restoration project allowed two stormwater detention basins to be removed and replaced with an additional 11 cottages demonstrating the economic viability of environmental restoration.
A few years later, we worked with Landis Communities to redesign the North Campus to evoke a sense of arrival into the community, to create gathering spaces and modernize apartment living. A new main entrance and 80 additional apartments) were constructed along with a wellness center, bistro and lower level parking. The multi-building apartment project known as The Crossings served to connect the east and west sides of the campus creating a long-desired internal connection between the independent living and skilled care portions of the campus.
