The Hershey West End is a mixed use, multi-service planned community guided by traditional town planning and Smart Growth land use principles. The community proposes a mix of commercial, retail, restaurants, as well as a hotel/conference center, medical office buildings, recreational uses, institutional uses, single family homes, townhouses, assisted living, apartments, age-restricted apartments, and a variety of open spaces.
Successful Master Planning Connects All Stakeholders
Purposeful communication is critical for all successful master plans – particularly a plan the size and complexity of Hershey West End. The master plan process outlines the vision for the project, that may take decades to complete. It includes design solutions, environmental mandates, stormwater management and optimal integration of open spaces. Prior to any site planning, Hershey Trust hosted strategic meetings with all consultants and municipal officials. The Hershey Trust also hosted public community meetings to share the vision, gain ideas and consensus. At RGS, we worked closely with the project team to design this master plan to provide long-range planning for infrastructure and transportation solutions, integration of Smart Growth principles, stormwater management planning, yet provide the flexibility to achieve an optimal outcome for the project as the project develops and is refined.
Integrated Network of Sidewalks, Trails Connects with Township’s Vision for the Community
Unique to the Hershey West End master plan is an integrated network of on-street sidewalks and off-street pedestrian and non-motorized trail connections. These systems will be connected to an already extensive pedestrian trail and sidewalk network throughout the existing community. They will provide substantial opportunities to inter-connect with existing neighborhoods and provide new, heathy alternatives to driving within the proposed Hershey West End project and the surrounding community.
